1. The rich history of the London stock Exchange is more than 300 years old. This makes the LSE the oldest stock exchange in the world. It was founded in 1801 and is currently located at the Paternoster Square, London.
2. The Exchange ranks first amongst its global peers in terms of ‘internationality’. It has almost 3,000 companies from over 70 countries listed on it.
3. With a market capitalization of US$3.6 trillion as of December 2010, the London Stock Exchange is the largest stock exchange in Europe and the fourth-largest stock exchange in the world.
4. Current trading platform is Linux-based own edition named “Millennium Exchange”.
5. The Exchange promotes dealings in equity markets such as the main market, AIM, the Professional Securities Market and the Specialist Fund Market. While AIM caters to the small-cap companies, the Professional Securities Market helped firms raise capital via debt securities and depository receipts.
