The Glendo State Park is a fantastic recreational destination located in Platte County and Converse County. It is situated at about 20 miles southeast of Douglas in Wyoming in the United States. The area has a great historic significance with Spanish Diggings lying just a few miles to the east of the reservoir. The place suggests a large amount of aboriginal activity. Many Native American artifacts continue to be discovered in the surrounding area.

The landscape offers a beautiful view with the sand dunes stretching from the Great Divide Basin and the Green River to the sand hills of Nebraska rising from the reservoir’s east side.


The park houses the Glendo Reservoir on the North Platte River near Glendo, Wyoming. Anyone who loves boating and fishing cannot miss this paradise of a place. In this area, you can have memorable experiences with camping, water sports and fishing. Many record fish for the state of Wyoming have been found at the Glendo Reservoir.

The Glendo State Park is renowned for being the best boating destination in Wyoming. The area offers almost 420 campsites in the seven camping areas. You can easily access the facilities like tables, grills, drinking water, and restrooms. The commercial concessions for marina services, motels and fishing equipment are also available.

The best campsites are the Red Hills, Waters Point, Reno Cave, Custer Cove, Soldier Rock and Colter Bay; Whiskey Gulch, Sagebrush, Two Moon, Sandy Beach and the Elk Horn. All these campsites have shade trees, a protected bay for tying boats and almost all other basic amenities.

The Red Hills and Waters Point Camping areas have approximately 45 sites. The sites have close access to the lake with a rock and gravel shoreline. The Reno Cove Boat launching area has approximately 30 sites. The sites have close access to lake with a rock and mud shoreline. All these camping sites have unleveled grounds that are exposed to winds.

The Custer Cove, Soldier Rock and Colter Bay Camping areas have approximately 40 sites with close access to lake with a mud and rock shoreline.

The Whiskey Gulch and Sagebrush have almost a 100 leveled grassy campsites with good wind protection. These lie along the south side of a large bay with good access to the shoreline of mud and gravel.

The Two Moon is one of the best camping areas. It has 200 sites located on a bluff overlooking the lake with no access to the shoreline by foot.

The Sandy Beach area is spread across a large area and houses two miles of sandy beach. All the campsites are booked by reservation. This campsite doesn’t have a protection for tying boats. No vehicles are allowed in this area.

The Elk Horn area has approximately 20 sites with close access to lake with a mud shoreline.

If you are planning to take a break this weekend to get away from the hustle-bustle of the hectic routine, try to head towards the Edness K. Wilkins State Park. It is the perfect place for a calming the mind and relaxing your body.

The park is named after Edness Kimball Wilkins, twenty-five year Wyoming legislator. Located on the shore of the North Platte River in Natrona County, Wyoming, just east of the city of Casper, the Edness K. Wilkins State Park is one of the most amazing destinations for camping, hiking, fishing, canoeing, rafting and other water sports. You can reach the Edness K. Wilkins State Park via the I-25 to exit 182 and then follow US 20-26.


Because of the North Platte River, it has a rich wildlife with an appreciable number of species of birds, animals and plants. the National Audubon Society has identified over 50 different kinds of nesting birds and a list of over 200 different species of smaller birds. You can come across yellow billed cuckoos, cormorants, bald eagles, golden eagles, sharp shinned hawks and up to 16 species of ducks.

The park is considered as one of the best locations for bird watching. You can spot a large number of nesting ponds and wildlife viewing blinds that have been set up as a result of the cooperative effort of the Wyoming Game & Fish Department and the Wyoming Wildlife Worth the Watching program. A riparian habitat area for water-type is the highlight of this project.

The cottonwood grove, the pond and the sandy beach together form a wonderful combination of serene landscape, resulting in attracting large crowds hoping to camp at the amazing campsites.

The park offers a number of picnic tables, grills, group shelters, playgrounds and a launching ramp for canoes or rafts. It even has a handicapped accessible fishing pier which is one of a kind in the state. There is a three mile path with handicapped accessibility. The pond gets filled with water during the summers, thus making it the perfect pool for swimming.
